Ms. Jennifer Bertram joins us this school year as our new Middle School Principal. She has been a secondary teacher and principal in Uruguay, Brazil, Bangladesh and India. However, being part of a Middle School community is what really lights her up. For Ms. Bertram, days spent in the presence of Middle School students are happy ones. That may mean working with members of the student government to plan school spirit events, accompanying students on an excursion or sitting with a student to hear about a Spanish presentation. Regardless of the event or activity, the enthusiasm and excitement for learning that Middle School students share is contagious.
What brought you to AIS?
I came to AIS because I wanted a school where I could continue to learn and work with Middle School students and teachers. This is my first time being in a Middle School with grade 5 students and so this is a new challenge that I am really enjoying.
What is your favourite thing about “being at” AIS?
My favorite thing about being at AIS is the Middle School staff. They are a very highly-skilled and capable crew. It has been a delight to come in and have so many awesome things in place.
Who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by my mother. She wakes up every day and asks the universe what it has in store for her. Even at 84 she is still learning every day and stays curious about everything that life throws at her!
What are some passions you explore outside your career?
I love walking and exploring. We’ve been clocking a lot of kilometers in Hong Kong on foot and I love all the green space in the city. I am constantly amazed with all the beautiful outdoor, shared spaces. It seems like I share this passion with a lot of Hong Kongers as there are always people out in the evenings running, walking or playing. I love that!
What’s in your lunch box?
Pasta aglio e olio with garlic fried greens on top!
Anything else you’d like to share?
I love the fact that I can take the MTR to school and then walk home. This feels very luxurious and I really appreciate it!
