At the American International School, we leverage Apple Tools and technologies to foster Creative Confidence. We are pleased to be recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2023–2026 for inspiring, imagining, and impacting teaching and learning school-wide through continuous innovation.

Creative Confidence is the ability to come up with new ideas combined with the courage to try them. Simply put, those with Creative Confidence are keen to experiment with new approaches, to generate innovative solutions, and to leverage new tools and technologies. This key mindset ensures that AIS students, faculty, and staff are able to live up to their potential and positively impact the world around them.

Future of Learning Hong Kong Conference

In November 2025, members of the AIS TECHsperts student leadership team had the exciting opportunity to present at the Apple Future of Learning Hong Kong Conference. Alongside educators from across the region, our students shared how the TECHsperts program empowers learners to become technology leaders who support teachers, lead workshops, and help drive innovation throughout the school community. The presentation highlighted the ways students use Apple technology to create, collaborate, and make a meaningful impact on learning at AIS.

The experience provided our students with an authentic leadership opportunity beyond the classroom. By presenting to an audience of educators and school leaders, the TECHsperts demonstrated confidence, communication skills, and a deep understanding of how technology can enhance teaching and learning. Their participation reflected AIS’s commitment to student agency and showcased how learners can become active contributors to the future of education.

International Coding Exchange

In 2025, AIS TECHsperts participated in Hong Kong’s first International Coding Exchange, traveling to Singapore to collaborate with students, explore innovation, and experience the global technology community. A highlight of the trip was a visit to the Apple Developer Centre Singapore, where students gained firsthand insight into how developers, designers, and engineers work together to create apps and digital experiences used by millions of people around the world. The visit provided a unique opportunity for students to see how creativity, coding, and problem-solving come together in a professional environment.

The experience inspired students to think beyond the classroom and envision how the skills they are developing at AIS can be applied to real-world challenges. By engaging with technology professionals and exploring one of Apple’s innovation hubs, students gained a deeper understanding of app development, design thinking, and future career pathways in technology. As participants in Hong Kong’s first International Coding Exchange, the TECHsperts represented AIS with pride while demonstrating the confidence, curiosity, and creativity that define our learning community.

TECHsperts Earn Most Creative Award at HACK852 AI Hackathon

AIS TECHsperts students proudly represented the school at the HACK852 AI Hackathon, where they competed alongside student innovators from across Hong Kong to design and develop solutions using artificial intelligence. Working collaboratively under tight time constraints, the team applied their skills in coding, design thinking, problem-solving, and presentation to create a project that addressed a real-world challenge. Their creativity, teamwork, and innovative approach stood out among a strong field of competitors.

The team’s efforts were recognized with the Most Creative Award, celebrating their ability to think differently and develop an original solution with meaningful impact. The achievement highlights the strength of the AIS technology and creativity programs and reflects our commitment to empowering students as creators, innovators, and future-ready learners. Through experiences such as HACK852, students have the opportunity to apply their learning in authentic settings while developing the confidence and skills needed to shape the future.

Little Innovators Lab

The Little Innovators Lab is a community outreach initiative led by the AIS TECHsperts that introduces young learners and their families to the world of creativity, coding, robotics, and digital innovation. Hosted on campus, the event welcomes children from the local community to participate in hands-on experiences with tools such as Swift Coding, Procreate, robotics, Osmo, and KIBO. Guided by TECHsperts student leaders, participants explore technology through play, discovery, and creative problem-solving in a supportive learning environment.

More than just a technology event, the Little Innovators Lab provides authentic leadership opportunities for AIS students. TECHsperts members serve as mentors, teachers, and role models as they work one-on-one with young learners and their families. Through this experience, students develop confidence, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of service leadership while inspiring the next generation of creators and innovators. The program reflects AIS’s commitment to student agency, community engagement, and meaningful learning experiences powered by technology.

Fourth Annual Faculty Creativity Showcase

In May 2026, AIS hosted its Fourth Annual Faculty Creativity Showcase, a celebration of the talents, passions, and creative pursuits of our faculty and staff. The showcase provided an opportunity for educators to share projects from beyond their classrooms, including artwork, photography, music, writing, coding, design, crafting, and other personal creative endeavors. By opening a window into their own creative journeys, faculty members demonstrated that creativity is not limited to students or school assignments, but is a lifelong pursuit that enriches both personal and professional growth.

The Faculty Creativity Showcase has become an important tradition at AIS, reinforcing our commitment to developing creative confidence throughout our learning community. By sharing their passions and taking creative risks alongside students, teachers model the curiosity, perseverance, and innovation that we seek to cultivate in every learner. The event serves as a reminder that at AIS, everyone is encouraged to be a creator, a learner, and an innovator.

Creativity Scope and Sequence

We see technology as an essential learning tool that gives students more flexibility and choice in how they demonstrate their learning and understanding. The Creativity Scope & Sequence is a guiding framework that outlines the essential digital creativity skills students will develop and demonstrate at each grade level.

Designed to support meaningful integration of technology with course standards and content, this resource helps teachers identify opportunities within existing units where students can creatively showcase their learning through digital tools and applications. While the creativity skills are not formally assessed or reported on, teachers use the grade-specific skills as success criteria checklists and incorporate them across various projects throughout the year. Middle and High School student TECHsperts also join classes across the school to teach and support these digital creativity skills and tools.

The Creativity Scope & Sequence promotes consistency and Creative Confidence across all grade levels while students develop content mastery.

Everyone Can Code!

At AIS, coding is an essential part of how students learn to think, create, and solve problems. Through Apple’s Everyone Can Code curriculum, students begin developing foundational coding skills starting in Early Childhood, building a strong base in computational thinking, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving.

As students progress through the grade levels, they learn to design algorithms, debug code, and think systematically about how technology works. These skills are applied in meaningful, hands-on ways—whether students are programming robots, creating interactive stories, designing games, building apps, or developing digital solutions to real-world challenges.

Coding at AIS is not just about writing code; it’s about developing confidence, persistence, and innovative thinking. By integrating coding across subjects and grade levels, we empower students to become creators of technology, not just users—preparing them with the skills they need for future learning, careers, and responsible digital citizenship

Generative AI

At AIS, we embrace Generative AI as a powerful tool for learning, creativity, and innovation—while remaining deeply committed to academic integrity, ethical use, and human-centered education. Guided by our mission to develop Empowered Thinkers and Effective Communicators, we intentionally integrate AI to enhance—not replace—critical thinking, deep learning, and authentic student voice.

Students and staff learn how to use AI tools responsibly, with clear expectations for transparency, proper attribution, and ethical decision-making. Through a strong focus on AI literacy and digital citizenship, learners develop the skills to evaluate AI-generated content, recognize bias, protect personal data, and understand the societal and environmental impacts of emerging technologies.

We also leverage AI thoughtfully to support data analysis, personalized learning, and informed decision-making—while ensuring that professional judgment, emotional intelligence, and research remain central to educational practice.

Through ongoing review, reflection, and responsible innovation, AIS empowers learners not just to navigate an AI-driven world, but to help shape it—with purpose, integrity, and imagination.
