Today was a momentous day for the American International School as we officially inaugurated our new Elementary Campus. This morning, students, faculty, parents and distinguished guests gathered at 117–119 Waterloo Road as a beautiful reflection of our “Global Family,” filled with tradition, music, and a deep sense of pride in our 25-year history.
The morning began with guests enjoying Indian Tea and biscuits, generously sponsored by the AIS PTA. As the community took their seats, our High School Concert Band – under the proud direction of our music department – performed a stirring rendition of Clarence Barber’s “A Festival Celebration,” followed by a proud community performance of the AIS School Song.
The formal proceedings featured several inspiring speakers who have helped shape the vision of our school:
- Dr. Beckie Bouchard, Elementary School Principal, emphasized how the new classrooms and dedicated spaces will foster even greater creativity.
- Mr. Cameron Fox, Head of School, spoke about the significance of this expansion in our Silver Jubilee year.
- The Hon. Allen P.F. Lee, AIS Board of Directors and our Guest of Honor, shared his insights on the school’s enduring legacy.
One of the most anticipated segments of the morning was “A Journey Through the Time Capsule.” Sponsored by the AIS PTA, the 25th Anniversary Time Capsule was officially dedicated during a special ceremony. This special collection contains mementos, student work, and messages from our current “Global Family,” capturing the spirit of AIS in 2011. The capsule is intended to be a bridge to the future, scheduled to be reopened when our school reaches its next major milestone.
The campus was brought to life with a vibrant Eye-Dotting Ceremony and a high-energy Dragon Dance Performance, symbolizing good luck and prosperity for our new facilities. This was followed by the official Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, featuring our Guest of Honor The Hon. Allen P.F. Lee, School Supervisor Mr. Howard Liang, and PTA President Ms. Becky Lau.
To conclude the event, our Development and Community Relations Officer Ms. Teresa Wong offered thank-you remarks to the many hands that made this campus possible. As elementary students returned to their classrooms, they were treated to “Birthday biscuits” sponsored by Golden Chariot Cake Shop. Meanwhile, parents and guests enjoyed refreshments provided by Café Concepts and Golden Chariot Cake Shop.
We are deeply grateful to our founders, our board, and our wonderful PTA for making this day—and this new campus—a reality. As we celebrate our Silver Jubilee this year, the opening of the Elementary School campus and the sealing of our time capsule stand as testaments to how far we have come since 1986 and our commitment to the future of AIS.
