Grace Lin Visits AIS!

AIS was thrilled to virtually welcome New York Times best-selling author and illustrator Grace Lin! Ms. Lin is an inspirational, Caldecott and Newbery award-winning writer of dozens of books including The Year of the Dog, Dumpling Days, and Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. Grace Lin visited our EC-G4 students March 16-17, 2021, and we were overjoyed that our students could connect with Ms. Lin virtually.

Ms. Lin met with three different groups of AIS students to share from many of her unique and beautifully illustrated stories.  Each grade got a chance to create some artwork with her too!  EC through G1J got to read The Ugly Vegetables and create their own tiger drawing. Grades 1 and 2 discussed the book Bringing in the New Year and got to make cool Ox New Year’s drawings!  Grades 3 and 4 heard Ms. Lin talk all about her book The Year of the Dog and students created their own unique dog drawing too.  There were pop quizzes, silly noises, laughs, surprises, questions and chickens!  Yes! We all got to meet Ms. Lin’s chickens!

It was an inspiring and thrilling experience for all of our Elementary School students which has no doubt created a wonderful memory of this year.  It was wonderful to hear all about what Grace Lin loves about reading, writing and illustrating and it left many students eager to read, write, learn and create.
