On August 18, 2018, the American International School became the backdrop for a very special project. We were delighted to welcome back Jackson Wang as he returned to his roots after 7 years to reflect on the journey that began right here in our classrooms and hallways for a high-profile collaboration with Hypebeast. He met with some of his former teachers and shared his memories of his time in AIS where he spent 6 formative years, from a Grade 4 student in Elementary School to a junior in High School.
I feel like education is important but make sure you have fun. To me, AIS — if you’re in this school, there’s no way that you can be left out. Everyone is interacting with each other on another level.
The highlight of the day wasn’t just the professional crew, but the involvement of our own G12 student filmmaker, Rachel So. Rachel managed to be on-site to capture exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and conduct a short but exclusive interview with Jackson in the place where his journey began.

To tell the full story of Jackson’s “red brick” roots, Rachel went behind the scenes to interview the educators who knew him best. The documentary features insights from Mr. Jamie Hardisty (former Dean of Students), Mr. Timothy Gartz (former Guidance Counselor), Mr. Wai Mun Ho (Head of World Languages), and Mr. Mike Wing (High School Principal). By blending these faculty perspectives with her own footage, Rachel created an intimate, heartfelt look at Jackson’s history at AIS through the eyes of a fellow Eagle. It remains a brilliant example of our students’ ability to step into professional roles and document the lasting legacy of our community.
Seeing a current student like Rachel have the opportunity to interview a global icon like Jackson is exactly what the AIS spirit is about—connecting our history with our future. It was a day where professional industry standards met student passion, proving that at AIS, the world is your classroom.
