31 May Community Update

Dear Faculty, Families, Students and Staff,

Creativity and the arts have been shining brightly at AIS this week with a variety of events taking center stage! Please take a moment to check out the many wonderful celebrations and culminating activities that have been making our world here at AIS even more beautiful.

AIS Volunteer Appreciation

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the PTA and all AIS parent volunteers for their invaluable efforts throughout the year. Their dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on the AIS community. From organizing events to supporting various programs, our volunteers’ contributions have enhanced our students’ educational experience and created a positive environment for learning and growth. We are truly thankful for their selflessness and ongoing commitment.

It was a privilege to honor their many contributions during our Volunteer Appreciation event on Tuesday.

Please enjoy the video from our AIS Community, “THANK YOU PTA” as a token of our appreciation for all your hard work and support!

Advanced Placement (AP) Art Show 2024

What a brilliant exhibition of our senior visual arts students’ work on display in the Advanced Placement Art Show, I’m Just a Girl, that took place on Tuesday, 28 May after school in the 125 Hall. The artwork was stunning, deeply personal, and very powerful. These young artists’ talent and vulnerability was genuinely moving, and I am proud of them and their teacher, Ms. Lynsey Reeves, who clearly creates the conditions for our students to evolve both as artists and people. Please enjoy a few of the many outstanding pieces that were available for viewing at the event.

AIS TECHsperts

In only their second year of operation, the AIS TECHsperts continue to foster Creative Confidence across our school. In the 2023-2024 school year alone, they achieved so much, offering a total of 57 workshops that supported 440 students and parents, and this is in addition to the many tech support tickets they address. The workshops they led and facilitated ranged from Procreate, to Garageband, iMovie, HTML web design, and so much more.

With 48 of the 50 strong team already certified Apple Teachers, we know that our Social, Personal, and Applied (SPA) learning model is empowering our students to lead and to apply their learning in meaningful ways. They not only support and serve others but they are growing their own expertise at the same time. Above all, they are helping our entire school community develop Creative Confidence, our key mindset.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to them all, and especially to their wonderful teacher leader Mr. Jeremy Green who continues to activate learning in powerful ways.

High School Concert Band

I am very excited to share that our High School (HS) Concert Band students were able to perform at Disney this week. Under the careful direction of our HS Music Teacher, Mr. Kevin Piner, this group of musicians impressed their audience and made us all proud. Please enjoy this short excerpt from one of their pieces.

Middle School Morning Music

Finally, our Middle School (MS) student musicians and MS Teacher, Mr. Robert McLean, treated us to a morning of music this week. Students from all divisions stopped by to watch and enjoy the string quartet play on their way to class. You know you are part of a special community when you are greeted by the sounds of live music as you enter the school front gates. BRAVO!

Middle School Band Slam

Last but not least, the Middle School showcased a range of student bands at the end of the day on Friday, and it was a perfect way to end an arts-packed week.

I hope the weekend ahead is a good one and that you all stay safe and dry!

My best,

Anita Simpson
