15 March Family and Student Update

Dear Parents and Students,

PTA Nominations!

It is that time of year when we are looking for nominations to the PTA Executive for the 2024-2025 school year. Being on the PTA is a wonderful way to give back to the school and to meet and work with other devoted AIS parents. As most AIS parents are already aware, the PTA plays a key role in the life of the school and provides a wide range of activities for students and fellow parents that enhance programming and school spirit. From bake sales, to movie nights, to our annual Winter Fair, PTA parents make an incredible difference to the school experience.

If you would like to be a part of the PTA Executive next year, or if you would like to nominate someone else to the Executive Committee, please complete THIS FORM by Monday, 25 March.

Being a part of the PTA is a powerful way to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about being on the PTA.

Bake Sale

And speaking of the PTA – our thanks goes out to them and all of the parents volunteers that hosted a fabulous Bake Sale today! The students were SO EXCITED to choose a snack from the incredible range of baked goods that they made available from iBakery. We’re grateful for the joy you continue to bring to our school community and excited to see what we raised for our Charitable Free Dress Day for the Home of Loving Faithfulness (HOLF). We will let you know!

Special thanks as well must go out to Ms. Vicky Lam, our Director of Admissions and Advancement, for sharing information about our PTA’s innovative Bake Sale today. Hong Kong Living ran with the story which is featured HERE. We’re very proud of our PTA and of their creative approach to giving and of Ms. Lam for promoting our school so successfully.

Families are kindly reminded to complete reenrollment for their student(s) before the 31 March deadline. There are currently waiting lists in several grades, so everyone is strongly encouraged to complete the process on time to avoid disappointment. Students currently on wait lists will be offered any available spots on 1 April. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have. Our friendly office and admissions staff, as well as your Divisional Principals, are always happy to help. Please don’t delay!

Earth Hour

On Saturday, 23 March, millions of people around the world will celebrate Earth Hour by turning off all electricity and electrical appliances in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint and demonstrate their commitment to making a positive difference to the impact of climate change on people and the planet. Now a global movement, Earth Hour originated in Sydney, Australia by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007.

Here in Hong Kong, the harbor will go dark during a “Lights Off Ceremony” at 8:30 pm, and the usually brightly lit skyline will look very different. If you are looking for a memorable activity, seeing the iconic harbor with its lights out promises to impress those who attend. You may also be interested in exploring an Earth Hour Carnival that will be held at the West Kowloon Cultural Center Saturday afternoon. The carnival will offer workshops, wellness activities, and a green market.

However you choose to celebrate our beautiful planet earth, thank you for raising awareness of our collective duty to protect the place we all call home.

My best,

Anita Simpson
Head of School
