02.17 Family & Student Update

Dear Families and Students,

What a full week this has been. Photo Days, preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences, big sports victories, and much more filled our days – and nights! – at AIS. Our students are thriving and, as always, we have so much to be proud of.

AIS Sports

Congratulations to our Girls U14 Basketball Team who made AIS history by taking 1st place and winning the Silver Division Championship!! Massive thanks to their coach Mr. Phong Nguyen for his excellent preparation and encouragement.

Our PE Department and AIS coaches have done an outstanding job of breaking records and reaching new heights this year. Our students are quickly reestablishing our presence as formidable opponents in the Hong Kong athletic community. Go EAGLES!!!

NEW Charitable Free Dress Day: Tragedy in Turkey and Syria

On Friday, 17 March, AIS will be supporting the relief efforts across the world to help those affected by the recent tragedy in Turkey and Syria. AIS remains dedicated to doing our part as global citizens, and we genuinely hope you will consider participating in this special fundraiser.

As I’m sure you know, help is still critically needed. As of 14 February, the death toll has surpassed 40,000, and that number continues to rise. Critical infrastructure is damaged beyond repair and the extent of the crisis means that many communities are without food, clean water, medical care, and emergency aid support. It goes without saying that human suffering as a result of this devastating earthquake is beyond measure, and we are determined to do what we can to alleviate some of the pain and suffering being experienced by so many at this time.

Our regularly scheduled fundraiser for the Home of Loving Faithfulness (HOLF) is rescheduled to 2 June, 2023. Thank you in advance for your support.

Coming Up!

It’s wonderful that we’re now able to offer more events that our parent community can access. The upcoming Grade 4/5 volleyball game on 16 March, sponsored by the PTA and Middle School, is a great example of how we can build fun transitions for our students and families. It’s sure to generate a lot of excitement and make the move from Elementary to Middle School even more exciting! More details about this event will be shared by our Elementary and Middle School principals in the coming days, so be sure to save the date!

Operation Santa Claus (OSC)

Many thanks to our students and to our Middle School Principal, Mr. Zachary Post, for their fantastic interview with the South China Morning Post (SCMP) before the break. They made us proud and the article is well worth the read!

Summer Uniform

Monday, 20 March is the start of Trimester 3 and the first day when all AIS students are expected to wear their summer uniforms; however, all students are welcome to transition into their summer uniform at any point, on or after Monday, 13 March. A memo with all of the details that families need is coming on Monday, 20 February.

You can purchase your student’s uniform through the school office at any time during office hours from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm. Please also follow THIS LINK to our school website where you can:

  • Place an online order;
  • Download an order form;
  • Read more about our school uniforms.

After reviewing the information found here, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about summer uniforms.

Confidence Focus Groups

There’s still space in the STUDENT focus group I’ll be hosting on Wednesday, 8  & 15 March from 1:30 – 2:15 pm and the PARENT focus group on Wednesday, 15 March from 1:30 – 2:15 pm. It would be wonderful to have you join me and Mr. Jeremy Green, our Learning Activator, to capture your thoughts about how we grow this important life skill at AIS. Just follow the link to add your name to the list and we’ll be in touch.

I hope you have all remembered to book your appointments for parent-teacher conferences next week, and that you have a wonderful weekend ahead.

Enjoy the beautiful sunshine.

My best,

Anita Simpson
