11.04 Family & Student Update

Dear Parents and Students,

What a wonderful week we just had! Despite the T8, there were many powerful learning experiences that took place. Just this morning, Middle School students heard from Jordan Hatter, a humanitarian and social advocate who speaks to students across Asia about the debilitating repercussions of civil war. Zooming with someone who has directly experienced the civil war in Syria was a powerful learning opportunity and moment for Middle School students, helping them become Global Citizens and Empowered Thinkers, two of our Expected School-Wide Learning Results (ESLRs).

Elementary School students are using their iPads to learn about green screens and about rural and urban environments, while having a lot of fun in the process. I’m confident that all of our students appreciate the work and preparation that goes into making specialized learning opportunities like these available, and I’m grateful to our faculty for making them happen.

Halloween

My heartfelt thanks goes out to all AIS parents and families who went out of their way to make sure their children had something special to wear for Halloween on our Charitable Free Dress Day this Monday. My sincere gratitude goes out to our amazing faculty as well for putting together many more joyful events for our students and for dressing up themselves! Special thanks to Mr. Post, Mr. Baumgartner, Ms. Morrison, and Mr. Wing and their Divisional Leadership Teams for all of their behind the scenes preparation that made things run so smoothly this week. Congratulations to Dylan in Grade 10 who won the Candy Container Contest with a perfect guess of 62 packages!

Here are just a few of the magnificent costumes that were on display on Monday, 31 October – Halloween!!

Winter Fair Artwork

We have such talented students at American International School! I am sure you will agree that the visual art below is a great indication of the number of talented artists in our student body. Many absolutely beautiful works of art were submitted for our Winter Fair Art Contest, and I am delighted to share some of the finalists with you. You will soon see several of these images featured on Winter Fair posters, raffle tickets, game tickets and much more! Thank you to the students who took the time to make our school – and world – more beautiful!
