10.21 Family & Student Update

Dear Parents and Students,

It is that time of year when the weather is cooling, and we can all enjoy the wonderful breezes and freshness that the fall weather brings. Be sure to dress appropriately for the changes and be on the lookout for the Winter Uniform Letter which will be sent next Tuesday, 2 November. All students will be expected to be in their Winter Uniform by Monday, 28 November. Be sure to place your order as soon as possible to be ready for the change.

AIS Sports

Our students have been incredibly productive both in and out of class, and I know you are as proud as I am of their many achievements this year. Our sports teams in particular are excelling right now.

Special congratulations go out to our Girls Under 14 Football Team who remain undefeated. Congratulations as well to our U20 Boys Volleyball Team for their recent victory over KGV! Be sure to follow all of our sports teams’ activities on our AIS Sports Facebook page! GO EAGLES!!!

Parent Teacher Association

Thank you to all of our parents and guardians who decorated the campus this week on Wednesday, 19 October. We are grateful for the transformation that you have made. Our students noticed right away and immediately began talking about – and touching – all of the fun decorations added across the school. They look fantastic!

Halloween! Monday, 31 October

Halloween is just over a week away! Monday, 31 October is also a Charitable Free Dress Day for Animals Asia. We hope that our students will all enjoy the opportunity to dress up in school-appropriate costumes for the event and to contribute to this important charity.

The PTA is once again sponsoring special treats for our students that day. Like last year, every student will receive a small bag of candy and a small pumpkin to take home at the end of the day. Thank you, PTA!

Winter Fair 2022

Later today, you will receive a detailed letter about our upcoming Winter Fair on Friday, 9 December, 2022 from 12:00 – 3:30 pm. Sponsored by the PTA, we are absolutely thrilled to be able to host the event on campus again this year. We are especially happy that our students will be able to experience a wonderful Winter Fair once again.

Please review the letter when you receive it and let the PTA Executive Committee know if you are able to volunteer by emailing the appropriate contact below. Kindly email our Director of Admissions and Marketing, Ms. Vicky Lam if you would like to contribute a prize for our Grand Prize Raffle Draw. She can be reached at vlam@ais.edu.hk. Thank you in advance for helping to make this year’s Winter Fair special.

Parents Make The Difference

Research consistently shows that parent engagement positively impacts student learning and achievement. At American International School, our goal is to provide all parents and guardians with timely, inspiring, and evidence-based support to help boost their ability to help students succeed at school.

Our new Parents Make The Difference Newsletters from The Parent Institute are one way we are supporting our parents with the ability to acquire new knowledge and learn new skills. We hope you enjoy these monthly, division-specific publications. Visit our school website for all divisional publications by following the link HERE or click on any of the images below for a link to that document.

Panorama Surveys

You should have received an email from Ms. Kathy Abel, our Director of Learning Innovation, with a request to complete our annual Panorama Parent Survey. Please take a few minutes to let us know how we are doing! We truly appreciate your time and feedback.

AIS TECHsperts

As part of our commitment to developing our students’ leadership skills and to honoring their talents, passion, and expertise, we are pleased to have launched a new initiative this year called AIS TECHsperts. TECHsperts are student leaders who possess expertise in a variety of learning technologies and tools and who are willing to share their knowledge and skills to support others. Led by our Learning Activator, Mr. Jeremy Green, our AIS TECHsperts are ready to serve the AIS community as we collectively grow our technological skills. Today, all students and faculty at AIS received a Google Form that allows them to request support for a range of programs and applications. No Day Without Learning!

MAP Family Webinar

Next Friday, 28 October from 12:00-12:45 pm, our Director of Learning Innovation, Ms. Kathleen Abel, will be hosting a webinar on how to understand the NWEA MAP assessment. Ms. Abel will also help parents learn how to access and read their child’s MAP Growth Progress Report. Kindly check your AIS Parent email for a letter from her that includes more information along with an RSVP form. Please note that you are still welcome to attend even if you do not RSVP.

As you can see, we are an active learning community with a great deal taking place. Thank you for being a part of it all.

Enjoy the weekend ahead and please reach out if you have any questions!

My best,

Anita Simpson
Head of School
