09.03 Family & Student Update
Dear AIS Community,
We’ve had another wonderful week of learning, and we remain mindful of how fortunate we are to be together on campus and experiencing in person learning. We never take that for granted, as we are aware that not everyone is able to enjoy that privilege, both here in Hong Kong and around the world.
What we see depends on what we’re looking for.

The Importance of Optimism
At AIS, we look for the positive in the everyday. As a school, we focus on what’s working and on our successes. This is not to say that we don’t seek to improve. That couldn’t be further from the truth; however, by remaining asset-based and optimistic, we foster Confidence (our key mindset at AIS!) and joy in others and, in turn, in ourselves. By noticing, appreciating, and acknowledging the best in people and in the situation at hand, we are better able to be grateful for the many good things each of us has in our lives.
This short article from Edutopia identifies three simple strategies that parents, teachers, and students can use to further develop their optimism. It is a skill and mindset that can be developed, and I encourage you to check the article out HERE.
New Front Entry
Our new front entry is now complete, and it looks absolutely lovely. The entryway adds several gorgeous pops of color when you come on campus, provides additional coverage for students in the pool, and reinforces our identity as an international school. We’re truly delighted with how it turned out!
Student Vaccination Rates
Thank you to everyone who has completed the student vaccination form. We appreciate your attention to this important task. You might be interested in knowing that, to date, we do not yet have any grades (7-12) that have reached the required 70% threshold established by the Education Bureau (EDB) to resume extracurricular activities (ECAs), but the numbers are very encouraging.
As you would imagine, we are all eagerly monitoring the situation. It is important for you to know that THIS FORM will remain open to allow for ongoing data collection. This is because we will continue to receive additional information from our families and students in the coming weeks and months. Data can change from day to day as students have birthdays, receive new medical approvals and more. We wish to include all relevant student updates in our data, so be sure to enter yours as well.
10 September
Just a reminder that Friday, 10 September is an Early Release Day for all students. Classes will end at 11:00 am that day and lunches will not be served.
I hope you enjoy the weekend ahead and find some time to savor the many good things around you.
My best,
Anita Simpson
