Student and Family Handbook 2007-08

1.0 Introduction

American International School (AIS), formerly known as California International (USA) School, was founded in September 1986. We are a private, non-profit, co-educational school registered with the Hong Kong Education and Manpower Bureau.

Serving both the local and expatriate communities in Hong Kong, we offer a rewarding and fulfilling international educational program to students from Early Childhood through to Grade 12. Our curriculum is based on US national educational standards supported and enriched by international best-practices.

Our school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), ensuring the academic program and our graduation requirements are acceptable for admission to schools, colleges and universities, not only in the United States, but across the world.

We are pledged to preparing our students to contribute to an increasingly international and interdependent world. As an international school we recognize, value and embrace the diversity of customs and traditions across our community, supporting a climate within our school that promotes friendship, understanding and global awareness.

The AIS Student and Family Handbook 2007-08 provides convenient on-line access to information on school regulations, roles and responsibilities, and the expectations we have for everyone attending the American International School. This handbook underlines our commitment to working closely with students and families in achieving academic excellence and inspiring the growth of well - rounded students prepared to take on the responsibilities and challenges of living in the 21st Century.

It is mandatory for every student and their family to read through the AIS Student and Family Handbook and acknowledge that they understand and agree to comply with the school’s policies and regulations.

All families will be required to confirm reading the Student and Family handbook by completing and returning via e-mail, the AIS Student and Family Handbook acknowledgment slip.
