The American International School celebrated the end of its 25th anniversary and the grand opening of the new elementary school campus by hosting a Silver Jubilee Time Capsule Ceremony on 2 December, 2011.
The ceremony was preceded by an opening piece “A Festival Celebration”, performed by the School Concert Band, followed by a video presentation - “
A Journey through the Time Capsule” (click on the link to watch the video). Speeches were presented by Dr. Beckie Bouchard, our Elementary Principal, Mr. Cameron Fox, our Head of School and the Hon. Allen P. F. Lee, from our Board of Directors. An unveiling ceremony was hosted for the Time Capsule, when uniforms and other mementos of school life for our elementary students were sealed away in a specially designed stainless steel box donated by the Parent Teachers’ Association. It will be opened again in 10 years time, when the Grade 2 students have become the seniors of the school.
“AIS has come a long way since its establishment in 1986,” said Cameron Fox in his welcoming speech. “The Time Capsule is a remarkable celebration of this journey, and a wonderful opportunity for the school to reflect on all that it has achieved in the last 25 years.” After the speeches, a traditional dragon dance was performed by our high school dragon dance team before our guests of honor, the Hon. Allen Lee, Mr. Howard Liang, School Supervisor, Ms. Becky Lau, AIS-PTA President, Dr. Bouchard and Mr. Fox conducted the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Our elementary students then returned to their classrooms and enjoyed special “birthday cakes” kindly sponsored by the Golden Chariot Cake Shop.
Thank you to all our parents and friends for attending our event. We would also like to thank Café Concepts, Golden Chariot Cake Shop and the PTA for organizing a lovely morning tea for everyone.
