AIS will recognize previous teaching experience up to a maximum of 10 years prior to joining AIS.
Experience is recognized by incremental steps on the AIS Salary Scale. There are two levels of step:
HK$1000 p/month will be added to the teacher’s entrance point on the Salary Scale in recognition of each year of:
- Full-time classroom teaching (minimum 10 consecutive months) in an accredited international school, or
- Full-time classroom teaching (minimum 10 consecutive months) in a bona-fide school in any country where English is the first language, that is recognized, registered and approved by the respective government’s education department or organization
HK$500 p/month will be added to the teacher’s entrance point on the Salary Scale in recognition of each year of:
- Full-time classroom teaching (minimum 10 consecutive months) in a bona-fide school in any country where English is not the first language, that is recognized, registered and approved by the respective government’s education department or organization (e.g. Government schools in Hong Kong or Singapore, JET program in Japan)
Teaching in language schools, tutorial classes, and private tutoring, supply teaching, temporary and occasional teaching or teaching at special skills training institutions is not recognized by AIS as regular classroom teaching experience on this scale.
Letters or other relevant documents must substantiate experience outside AIS. The burden of proof rests with the individual.
An annual salary increment of HK$1000 will be added to the teacher’s base salary for every one year of full-time teaching at AIS.
Part-time teaching experience at AIS will be calculated pro-rata according to the teaching load/full-time load factor.
The successful completion of the full contract term will provide for the additional payment of a gratuity amount equal to the final month’s salary. This will be paid together with the final month’s salary at the end of July.
A teacher may request sabbatical leave for one year without pay upon successful completion of 10 consecutive years’ employment at AIS.
