English literature courses are mandatory each year in our high school program, with students required to complete a minimum of 4 credits before graduation.
In Grade 9 and Grade 10, students study World Literature. These courses are genre based, focusing on the development of essential literary skills.
In Grade 11, students study American Literature and in Grade 12, British Literature is the focus.
Honors courses in English literature are offered at each grade level for those students preparing to take AP English Literature and Composition in their senior year.
Our English program also provides for students in need of additional support with their English literacy skills. These students have the opportunity to take elective English Language Arts courses to support and strengthen their knowledge, use and understanding of English across the curriculum.
We also offer an elective course in Journalism that includes production of the AIS high school newspaper The Eagle.
