Empowered Thinker Awards 2011-12

Angela Lam

Angela Lam (Grade 12) has been a stand out student since she arrived at AIS in 2008. This year alone she has achieved outstanding results in AP Physics, Psychology, Economics, and English Literature and Composition. Angela’s dedication and cheerful optimism on campus endears her to her classmates, teachers, and every member of the school. While she has earned an overall 95% and 3.90 G.P.A., her contributions extend far beyond academics with her involvements in community service such as Kiss My Earth and Yearbook clubs, as well as her talents for sports in badminton and basketball. As a leader, Angela has been a key and most reliable member of the Prom Committee and Student Council. Having nearly done it all, Angela is to be commended for her outstanding acceptance to the University of Chicago!

Kate Zhang

Kate Zhang (Grade 11) has demonstrated an academic aptitude and ability that is simply impressive. From near perfect scores on her SAT Tests to a 95% 'A' average this year amidst a rigorous course schedule that includes Advanced Placement AB/BC Calculus, English Language and Composition and Honors Physics. Beyond academics, she has been a wonderful addition to our Concert & Jazz Bands, Human Rights Club, and Young Entrepreneur’s Club. Her enthusiasm and heartfelt care in assisting to complete a medical clinic for a young nurse and her family in Fiji are particularly commendable. It is great to see her gentle persuasion and skill as she helps others raise their own university admissions chances as President of The SAT Club.

 Judith Yang

Judith Yang (Grade 10) has continued to impress in Grade 10 as she had in Grade 9. With a tremendous workload including four Honors Courses: World History, Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, Biology, and English, and with her meticulous devotion to her academics, she has achieved a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. and 98% overall average in all her courses. Yet, in addition to this amazing feat she has been a highly regarded participant in several extra-curricular activities including: Comic and Anime, High School Production, Science, and SAT Clubs as well as being a valuable asset in the creation of our yearbook for everyone to enjoy.

Chrissie Lai

Chrissie Lai (Grade 9) is a remarkable individual and caring friend to many of her class. Through her efforts she has made a great impact and addition to two of our service clubs on campus: The Tzu Chi Foundation Recycling Club and Peer Tutoring as a Coordinator. She has earned Principal's Honor Roll with a near perfect G.P.A. and has done so with the great satisfaction of her teachers. With great debate and organizational skills she helped represented her Grade 9 homeroom to compete in the All School Debate Championships. With nearly fifty hours of heartfelt Community Service and for all Chrissie has done, it is a great pleasure and honor to recognize her achievement through this Grade 9 Empowered Thinker Award.
