Effective Communicator Awards 2010-11
Kumiko Mita

Kumiko Mita (Grade 12) is an outstanding, vibrant leader of the Grade 12 class. She is always cheerful and a loyal classmate and has worked diligently this year to post a near perfect GPA. She helped form the school’s first Model United Nations Club that went on to win awards and represent our school with great pride. As a Senior Project Manager, she was instrumental in the success of the All-School Debate Contest, the start of AIS VoiceSpeak – our school’s online forum, and TED Talks that helped raise awareness of global issues. Kumiko has been the Editor-in-Chief of Eagle News. She was also inspirational in the aftermath of this year’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan, getting the word out to students and helping to raise funds for those in her home country.

Mano Ono

Mano Ono (Grade 11) won Best Delegate at this year’s CUHK Model United Nations Conference. In addition, she has supported a local NGO by translating files into Japanese to support microfinance in developing nations. She also demonstrated her outstanding communication and English skills as an AIS peer tutor and volunteered at a local Kindergarten. Mana is a member of the Dance Club, soccer U20 and volleyball teams.

Justin Lee

A highlight of Justin Lee’s (Grade 10) year was his time in Adventure Week trip to Paris where he visited cultural landmarks, practiced his French and volunteered at a home for the elderly. Throughout his communication with others he is always cheerful, vibrant, and respectful. As an amicable, responsible and hard-working student, Justin has had a successful year at AIS joining the board game club and badminton team. It was a joy to see Justin represent his homeroom in the All-School Debate Contest as a member of the Grade 10 winning team.

       Loreen Catubay

Loreen Catubay (Grade 9) was one of this year’s outstanding drama performers and a lead in our school play. She is a confident speaker with an indomitable stage presence. Outside drama, Loreen has been a valuable member of the Environmental Issues Club and Track and Field bringing her ability to raise other’s performances in the process. As she continues to grow academically, socially and personally, we look forward to more good things from Loreen!
