High School completed its annual Outdoor Education and Leadership Program (OELP) during late October. Students enjoyed successful team building, cultural immersion and service learning programs in Fiji, New Zealand and all around Asia.

Highlights from this year include our first ever trips to Fiji, Cambodia and an excursion along parts of the great Silk Road. Students were involved in service learning programs - building projects, supporting a local elementary school, and cooking meals to provide for the elderly in a local village, as well as enjoying the sights, beaches and culture of beautiful Fiji in the South Pacific. In Cambodia, our group was able to learn much about the country's troubled history and exotic culture as well as working with an orphanage project in Kampong Chan. The Silk Road program was described as an "awesome experience with a perfect blend of sight-seeing with language learning and cultural interaction". Students and teachers particularly enjoyed riding camels and seeing the amazing sand dunes in this fascinating part of north west China. We also had another outstanding trip to Sabah, Malaysia where students spent a week focused on animal and environmental conservation, as well as working alongside local villagers to understand and support much of Malaysia's beautiful culture and people.

Other trips included looking after elephants whilst on an adventure and service learning program in Chiang Mai; culturally enriching and environmental learning programs in New Zealand and also in Bali, Indonesia; as well as the extremely popular freshman trip focusing on adventure and service in beautiful Guillin, China. Finally, some students stayed in Hong Kong and enjoyed a program focused on team building and adventure as they learned to sail, rock-climb and camp in the wonderful environment around us in Sai Kung and on Lantau.

Adventure Week 2011 was a truly memorable and thoroughly rewarding experience for all. The programs were more centered around service learning than ever before, and students were able to support others whilst learning a lot about themselves and the world around us. With many opportunities for adventure and fun thrown into each program all the trips were a tremendous success and provided students numerous opportunities to challenge themselves, make new friends, work in teams, develop leadership skills, or understand more about a different culture, or global issue.
