Admissions Process
Admissions at AIS is a 'three-step' process. We trust the following information will assist every prospective family and student in understanding our admissions procedures including all the necessary documentation required to process an application for admission.

Step 1: Application Fee & Documents
The cost of making an application to the school is HK$1500/US$200. Please note this fee is non-refundable.

All applicants must submit a completed Application for Admission Form to our admissions staff in the school office.

 Application for Admission Form

Together with the completed Application for Admission Form, all applicants must provide:

  1. A copy of the applicant's birth certificate
  2. A copy of the applicant’s passport or Hong Kong Identity Card
  3. Two passport size photographs taken within the last 12 months
  4. Copies of previous 3 years' school records

Successful admission to AIS will depend on the applicant providing all relevant documentation proving academic ability and appropriate achievement of expected learning results. To ensure AIS is capable of meeting every student’s academic and personal needs, all applications must be supported with copies of school report cards or transcripts for the 3 previous academic years. All applicants must disclose any and all additional documentation or reports relating to the applicant’s ability to successfully learn in a regular academic school environment.

Step 2: Placement Tests

All applicants seeking admission to AIS from Grade 1 through Grade 12 are required to take written placement tests in English and Mathematics.

The language of instruction and communication at AIS is English. Students seeking admission to AIS are expected to be proficient users of English appropriate to their age and in line with the language requirements of their grade-level. An appropriate degree of English proficiency in both academic and communicative language will be necessary for the application of any prospective student to be considered.

Please note written tests in English and Mathematics are not administered to students seeking enrollment in Early Childhood or Grade 1 Junior classes. In this situation, admission will be determined by the elementary school principal after reviewing the Application for Admission Form, all subsequent documentation, and interviewing the student and family.

Step 3: Interview

The admissions procedure includes a personal interview between the student and family and the respective school principal. During this interview the applicant’s overall suitability for the school will be assessed.

Students and families seeking admission to AIS are expected to support the school’s mission and contribute positively to the AIS community. Admission tests and previous school records will be reviewed by the respective principal or Head of School before the personal interview with the applicant and family. The personal interview provides the school and prospective family an opportunity to review the applicant’s previous school records and their performance on the AIS admissions tests. This is also where reasons for seeking admission to AIS are discussed and overall suitability for admission considered.

Based on the applicant’s previous school records, performance on the AIS admissions tests and the personal interview, a decision to offer a place to the applicant will be made by the principal or Head of School. The decision to accept or deny admission will only be taken once all three steps in the admissions process are complete. It is the responsibility of the respective school principal to approve or reject an application for admission.

Enrollment

Upon offering an applicant a place in the school, an official letter confirming this offer will be signed by the respective principal or Head of School and given to the family. If the family wishes to accept the offer, they must do so within 7 days and provide payment of the subsequent school fees in order to guarantee enrollment.

Applications for Admission Part-Way through the Academic Year

Students successfully transferring into AIS during the school year will be required to continue their academic program at the same grade level for the remainder of the AIS academic year.

Students transferring into AIS in the second semester who have recently completed their last academic year in a previous school system will be required to continue at the same grade-level for the remainder of the AIS academic year.
