Grade 5 at AIS
	The grade five program at AIS is taught with a major focus on literacy. Students will be given ample opportunities to read, write, speak and listen to others. With this strong literacy focus, you will often see our students working in small guided reading groups, sharing stories with a group of friends, or meeting one on one with their teacher. Helping to develop our students into independent and life long readers and writers is a goal within our grade 5 classrooms.

	Our students are also expected to be leaders and role models for the younger classes within the Primary School. Each year, all the students in the elementary elect grade 5 house captains. These elected captains assist with Sports Day, our recycling program, and Monday morning announcements. This added responsibility of being a positive role model and leader within the school is something that our fifth graders take very seriously. The overall academic program in grade 5 also includes Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The students also participate in PE, Music, Mandarin, Computers, and Art. As you can easily see, the students here at AIS have a well rounded and varied academic program.
