Welcome to Grade 1 Junior

Grade One Junior provides a transition from the more experiential learning of the Early Childhood Program to the more formal instruction of Grade One. In G1J play remains an important part of the program. It allows children to make choices, share, communicate, cooperate, and negotiate with their peers in a stimulating learning environment

The key academic component of G1J is literacy, which includes speaking, listening, reading and writing. Formal reading instruction in G1J consists of, in part, instructive reading, shared reading, guided reading with the individual student and small groups, and independent reading. Writing focuses on making meaning and communicating with words, and students are encouraged to write using their phonetic skills (developing letter/sound knowledge).
